The new era of electric cars: Charging stations for parking lots of business properties - the law obliges, eParking helps!

As the popularity of electric vehicles grows, so does the need for charging infrastructure. The new law on equipping buildings with electric vehicle charging points has entered into force in stages, and it applies to both new and existing non-residential buildings. The goal is to ensure that electric car drivers have enough charging opportunities everywhere.

What does the law mean in practice?

In new buildings and large-scale repairs:

  • Parking areas with 11–50 parking spaces must have at least one 3.7–22 kW charging point or one over 22 kW charging point.

  • Parking areas with 51–100 parking spaces must have at least two 3.7–22 kW charging points or one over 22 kW charging point.

  • Parking areas with more than 100 parking spaces must have at least three 3.7–22 kW charging points or one over 22 kW charging point.

  • In parking areas with 11–30 parking spaces, at least 50% of the parking spaces must have charging points ready.

  • In parking areas with more than 30 parking spaces, at least 20% (at least 15) of the parking spaces must have charging points ready.

In existing buildings:

If there are more than 20 parking spaces connected to the building, at least one charging point must be installed there by 31 December 2024 at the latest.
