Electric cars housing and parking lots grew by almost ten times in two years

Tampere-based eParking's network already has more than 65,000 charging points in housing estates and parking areas across Finland. The charging volumes of electric cars using the network have increased from 2021 to 2023 almost tenfold.

In 2021, electric cars were downloaded with 2.5 million kWh of eParking charging points. In 2022, the number increased to 7.7 million kWh and by 2023 the figure was already over 22 million kWh. Growth has been staggering, and in the first quarter of this year alone, the number of charging points has increased by 5,000.

EParking is a pioneer in electronic transport who has been developing a corporate and housing charging network and its intelligent services in Finland for over 15 years. During this time, the company has achieved the largest charging network in Finland in companies, housing companies, parking garages and other parking lots.

A success story from Tampere

“The idea of the company originated in a student dwelling in the Tampere automation technology Di student. The idea of a remote -controlled temperature was born when the distance was 300 meters away and due to irregular travel times, the car was mostly frozen, as the timing of the post did not correspond to the actual departure time. This is how Igl-Technologies Oy and Etolppa, a remote-controlled car heating pole, began in 2009, ”says Kirsi Immonen, .

“Soon, student friends noticed that Etolppa could also be used to charge electric cars. However, there were very few electric cars at the time, so the company focused primarily on marketing the product as a premium temperature from the point of view of intelligent energy management solutions and energy savings. The actual growth of the company only began to appear as the cars to be charged became more widespread and the comprehensive parking and charging solution was created, ”Immonen sums up.

Most of the charging needs of electric cars are at home or at work

A comprehensive corporate and housing charging network is one of the most important factors in the smooth everyday traffic of electric cars. The electric car can be loaded up to 150-400 kilometers during the night or working day, depending on the operating travel power. The average average driving performance of a Finnish motorist is approximately 43 kilometers, so charging a car during parking covers almost all electric car charging needs. Therefore, corporate and housing charging is one of the most important attractiveness factors in promoting electronic traffic. Most electricity is downloaded at home or at work.

“One of our most important projects this year is the opening of the Espoo Niittykumpu parking garage in early 2024. UTU, in cooperation with IGL, supplied over 130 Uturex-Di-Loading devices in the Espoo parking garage and several Uutumex base charging devices that can be charged. The charging stations were connected to the EParking system, allowing them to use smooth use and billing and load management. The products have been developed and manufactured at Utu's factory in Ulvila and are ideal for housing and workplace use, for example. In our experience, our customers value Finnish products and Finnish know-how, so Igl and UTU are perfectly responding to Finns' parking needs, ”says Anu Rantala, Head of the EV Charging Business Unit from UTU Oy.
