Load Management - How can electricity be sufficient?
WHAT?
Load management is a service built in the EParking system that ensures that charging electric cars and heating cars is safe and that the maximum electrical capacity or phase-specific current limits available to the site are not exceeded. In addition, more advanced load management solutions can be used, for example. for regulating the internal load of the property.
Load management, as its name implies, monitors and levels the load. At its simplest, load control ensures that the electricity consumption of the parking space does not burn the fuse of the parking area or the upper center. This is done by adjusting the charging and heating load: when the number of chargers increases to such an extent that the power limits are exceeded, the system releases capacity by reducing the charging power.
WHY?
People are moving and thus burden the net at different times: someone wants to preheat their cars, the other goes to work in the afternoon, the third charges their car's battery at night. In addition, the load is also of different power due to the various internal chargers of cars. The car chargers are 1, 2 or 3 stages, and the charging current varies between 6-32 amps. A system where everyone could use electricity at the same time at high loads is not sensible, as the electrical connection is priced according to their maximum power. However, if there is a situation where more people want to use electricity at the same time, load control can reduce maximum consumption peaks and move the load to another moment.
On average, people drive about 50 kilometers a day. This corresponds to about 10 kWh of electricity, meaning that the same amount of electricity must be returned to the car per day on average. Usually it is enough for the car to be loaded at the end of the day or when you go to work in the morning. Load management takes care of the electricity sufficient if everyone wants to charge their car at the same time.
With the help of load management:
You save on costs
Improve the safety of a building
Scale consumption as needed
You monitor electricity consumption
You guarantee users equitable energy supply
You reduce your need for maintenance
HOW?
In eparking, load management is available on three different levels:
The 0-level load control controls the power limits per injection and ensures that the charging power does not exceed the permitted maximum in each plug separately.
Level 1 load management takes care that the maximum current values of the charging and heating equipment are not exceeded. Nor do they exceed phase and group fuse values. In practice, therefore, 1-level load management can monitor heating and charge consumption of an entire parking space.
Level 2 load control is the latest and most modern solution. In this solution, the main center of the property will also bring a meter that communicates with the charging equipment. In practice, the 2-level load control can be used to adjust the maximum power consumed by the charging equipment according to the consumption of the property: if the property has other high consumption, the charging side can be released dynamically and in real time. For example, on a warm summer day, the power of the charging equipment can be reduced in order to maintain a capacity to maintain the office building air conditioning.
The video below describes the functioning of different load management levels in more detail.
Load management solutions are an important part of a safe and equitable charging system and efficient electrical design of the property. EParking is the only system on the market that monitors the electricity consumption of the entire property, from a single charging plug to the main center.
