Lahti Market Park: New flat quality
A new charging station was opened in Lahti's Toriparkki in April 2021. The modern charging service, implemented in collaboration with Kempower, utilizes direct current (DC) technology, which enables more efficient and faster charging.
DC charging devices represent a significant step forward in the charging options for electric car owners. Traditionally, electric cars are charged using alternating current (AC), which the vehicle’s internal charger converts into the DC power required by the battery. As a result of this conversion process, the charging power is often lower than the charger’s rated power. However, with DC charging, this limitation is overcome, as charging occurs directly into the car’s battery without the power limitations imposed by the internal charger. This makes charging faster and more efficient.
After installation, customers will have access to four new DC fast chargers at Lahti Toripark, which offer up to 150 kW of charging power for all electric cars. The price of charging is €0.25 / kWh (as of April 2021). This joint project between Lahti Parking and eParking promotes sustainable mobility and improves the charging experience for electric car drivers. The introduction of the first DC chargers controlled via eParking in Lahti – the European Green Capital 2021 – is a natural step towards more ecological urban transport.
Lahden Pysäköinti and eParking have had a long-term collaboration in the development of digital parking permits. Now this collaboration is expanding to include smart charging solutions that support the widespread use of electric vehicles and sustainable urban transport.
