Highway 30: Business Park Download Services
Did you know that a car spends 95% of its life parked?
What could be more important than having a car to charge both at home and during the workday, i.e. in places where the car is parked anyway? Employers play a significant role in ensuring that charging services can be arranged at workplaces and electricity can be billed to the user.
on Highway 30 has over 2,000 employees and about 1,000 parking spaces. There were over a hundred traditional heating posts in the parking garage. At the same time, several companies encouraged their personnel to switch to charging cars with their car policies. The property representatives had the impression that the total electricity cost of the posts and seven unmetered charging sockets was thousands of euros per year. When the maintenance work caused by the timers of the traditional heating sockets was added to this, the sums were already close to five figures. The seven available charging points were full even before eight in the morning, when chargers used the heating posts to charge and later went during coffee break to turn the timer. Although attempts had been made to eradicate unauthorized charging through information, it had not been eliminated.
The customer wanted to think about the charging and heating services offered by the property as a whole. Heating had been offered free of charge at the property until now, and this was the intention to continue.
With the ECO feature of ePole, heating operation can be selected from the plug via the app.
However, heating can only be done when the outside temperature is below 5 degrees, and even then only for a short time. The heating time increases as the temperature drops.
If the temperature is low enough, chargers also receive free electricity from slow charging points.
However, electricity at fast charging stations is always subject to a charge. If the temperature is above 5 degrees, the heating feature cannot be turned on. In this case, the only option is to use the paid charging feature.
216 slow charging points (eTolppaa) and 14 fast (22 kW) charging points were implemented on Highway 30. The fast charging points in the area are priced more expensive than the slow charging points. This encourages chargers who are at their workplace all day to charge from the slow charging points, and the fast charging points are not unnecessarily loaded.
Solutions like Highway 30 are needed to make charging cars more common. Traditional heating posts without measurement capabilities and equipped with mechanical timers are outdated. Today's smart charging devices can be used to perform sensible measurements, add a billing service to the overall system, and gain a common understanding of the power curves and energy consumption of the property's parking spaces.
The site's fast charging points have been implemented together with Tampere Electricity Company.
