P-Sarastuskaari: Modern parking garage for electric cars and cyclists
P-Sarastuskaari in Kuopio is an excellent example of a modern parking garage designed to serve electric car drivers in the most versatile way possible. This six-level, 600-space parking garage is strategically located near the Savilahti campus, which is home to Savo Vocational College, the University of Eastern Finland and Savonia University of Applied Sciences. The area is also home to Kuopio University Hospital and the Savo Science Park, which is home to around 200 companies. In the future, apartments will also be built in the area, and the total number of residents, employees and students in the area is estimated to increase to 35,000. The parking garage therefore serves both employees and students as well as future residents.
P-Sarastuskaari has 300 charging devices, all of which work with the eParking application. The charging devices come in different capacities, and as demand grows, their number can easily be increased.
Slow charging (3 kW) – Most chargers are designed for long-term parking, such as during a work or study day. These devices have suko plugs, which can also be used to heat the car in winter.
Medium-speed charging (22 kW) – 20 more powerful charging points (UTU EVBox) for those who need faster charging.
Fast charging (100 kW) – Four fast chargers (Kempower) for fast charging needs.
The pricing is tiered so that slow charging is cheaper than medium or fast charging. This way, drivers who park for long periods of time prefer slower charging, leaving faster chargers available for those who need fast charging.
Safe parking solutions for cyclists
P-Sarastuskaari also serves cyclists by offering two separate bicycle parking lots with a total of 200 spaces:
130-space public bicycle parking
70-space paid, locked and monitored bicycle parking lot
The bike parks are located inside the parking garage and have a separate entrance. The safe parking solution encourages cycling to work and errands.

The parking garage also takes ecology into account. Solar panels have been placed on the roof of the parking garage, the energy produced by which is utilized in maintaining the parking garage's functions. Electric car charging devices also utilize the electricity produced by the solar panels. P-Sarastuskaari is completely digital and meets the growing needs of motorists and the Savilahti area in the 2020s perfectly. The modern parking garage enables versatile charging of electric cars and supports sustainable mobility, including cycling.
